The ball mill trunnion is a key part of cement machinery. It mainly plays the role of supporting and connecting the cylinder in the whole machine and is the inlet and outlet channel of materials. The shape of the ball mill trunnion is special, and there is an R zone. After the trunnion is finished, it is not allowed to have obvious casting defects - shrinkage holes, slag inclusions, segregation, and cracks. These casting defects are often the main reason for the fracture of the ball mill trunnion.

Ball mill trunnions are generally relatively large steel castings, and some trunnions weigh more than ten tons. Aging treatment should be carried out when machining trunnion blanks, otherwise there will be residual stress concentration. During the operation of the trunnion under the action of cross stress, the stress concentration erupts, which also easily leads to the appearance of cracks.
If the trunnion of segment casting cannot guarantee the quality of welding and post-weld heat treatment, it is easy to produce hardened structure, stress concentration, and micro-cracks.
